Man is a social being. He has to live with others in society. In society, he has to obey some particular rules and regulations. These are called discipline. In student life, discipline is a must. Because, it is the golden period of life.
The word ''Discipline'' has come from a Latin word 'discipulous' which means a 'disciple' or a 'student'. A disciple obeys the orders of his master without any question. So, according to the original meaning, the word discipline is best suited for the student life. In its broadest sense, discipline is the obedience to the systems of our individual, social, national and international life.
Discipline is a law of nature. The whole solar system works following certain discipline. In student life, discipline is essential at every step from the classroom to the playground. To speak the truth, it is the best time to build the habit of discipline.
In Study: The prime duty of a student is to study. In study, a student should be well-disciplined. A good student never puts off his study for tomorrow. Meritorious students are always disciplined. Generally they follow strict study routines in preparing their lessons. If we read about the student life of great men, we see that they have passed their student life in strict discipline. Sir Isaac Newton, Alexander Fleming, Great Aristotle, Francis Bacon were disciplined in their whole life.
At School: A student must be disciplined in his/her school. He is to maintain the systems of the school and the code of conducts of the school. Beside this, every student should obey and respect his teachers in the school and out of the school. In classroom, he should listen to his teachers attentively. If he is asked any question, he should answer that. If the answer is known to him, he should admit that politely. Above all, every student should abide by the rules and regulations of the school administration.
In Playground: Discipline plays a vital role in playground too. If a team maintains discipline among themselves, they are sure to win. Those who want to be established as perfect sportsman in future, they must have to obey the rules of the game, the direction of the captain, and above all, the decisions of the referee. In fact playground is such a place where there is no discrimination of rich-poor, high-low, religion-cast, etc. So, everyone should co-operate the other players.
At Home: Often it is seen that, students are very polite and modest at school but just the opposite at home. This is very bad. Family is the smallest social institution where everyone gets the primary ideas about discipline. Actually, family acts as the per-primary school of any person. Here the teachers are parents, older/elder brothers, sisters, uncle/aunt and other seniors. So like his school-teachers, these persons are respectable; specially parents. A student must have to obey his/her parents.
Had there been no discipline in nature, the universe would have been full of chaos, confusion, and collision. In fact, life on earth would have been impossible. Even the lower animals like bees and ants live a disciplined life. We are the best creation of Almighty. So it is our due responsibility to maintain the law and order made by Him.
