Population Growth in Bangladesh

Introduction: Generally the population of a country is an asset to her. But this asset turns into a problem when it grows rapidly and the country can not afford to give her people the basic needs of life. Hence, population growth is a barrier to development.

Current population of Bangladesh: Bangladesh is one of the most densely populated countries of the world. According to the last statistics (2011), the total population of this small country is 148.10 million. Experts assume that the population of the country will be around 20 crores within 2020 and exceeded 25 crores within 2050.

Consequences: The consequence of uncontrolled population growth is not less harmful than atomic explosion. To speak shortly, it hinders the overall development of any nation or country. Bangladesh is in the worst situation regarding this. If the current population growth of our country continues, our population will be doubled within the next 30 years. It will be a great challenge for the country to feed the overgrowing population, let alone assuring other basic rights.

Disrupts Social, Economic, and National Developments: Population growth slows down the motion of social, economic growth and development of any country. As a developing third-world country, the problem is acute in Bangladesh. Because, it is creating many other serious problems in the country like poverty food crisis, housing problem, lower standard of life, price hike, educational problem, corruption and so on. All these are responsible for spoiling development process of this poor country. The unemployment problem of our country has been created by the population problem. This huge population is creating pressure to our limited wealth. Besides, poverty is an acute problem of our country which has also been created by the population problem. The number of poor people is increasing day after day. As a result, social degradation is being seen in our country. Many unemployed young of our country are misled today. They are engaging themselves into various crimes. Some of them are addicted to various types of intoxications. To speak the truth, most of the problems for which we are lagging behind, create from overpopulation.

Possible solutions: In fact, it is a gigantic task to control the population of a country. Our government has taken several projects and activities to control the population. I think it is not possible for the government to solve this problem alone. All walks of people should come forward to solve the problem. Educated people and students can play a vital role here. They can create awareness among the other people. Electronic and print media can also play important role. According to me, Government can provide quota-system or extra facilities to encourage small family. Transport of manpower is also a good solution. We all should bear in mind that development is not possible without pr
ing population growth first.

Conclusion: Extreme increase of population is obstructing the socio-economic development of our country. It is the biggest problem for which our country is lagging behind. Therefore, we must have to control our population to build up a better Bangladesh.
