The man who treats the common diseases of the poor villagers is a village doctor. He is a well-known figure in the village and in the village society. He is not a qualified doctor. He has neither proper education nor big certificates on medical science. He treats his patients on the basis of long experience of working with a qualified doctor. But he treats his poor patients very sincerely. He plays an important role for the villagers’ health care as in our villages, qualified doctors are rare. Most of the so called qualified doctors do not like to practice in village. In that case a village doctor is the only reliance of the villagers. Generally, he uses a part of his living house as a dispensary. There he attends on the patients. Normally an old chair, a table, two or more benches and an almirah is seen in his simple dispensary. He gets ready early in the morning and sits on his chair. He prescribes medicine for sick patients. He does not keep costly medicines and injections. Usually, he gives his patients different types of mixtures, capsules, tablets and syrups to cure their diseases. He takes small fees from these poor patients. He is very much friendly with the villagers. The villagers find him whenever they call him. They can share their weal and woe with him. A village doctor often gossips with the villagers in his leisure. When he is alone in his dispensary, he passes his time by reading books on medicine. Sometimes, he has to go out to see urgent patients at the adjacent areas. Rarely a village doctor prescribes wrong medicine which worsens patient's condition. But whatever may be fact, we can not deny the importance of such a doctor. In fact he is friend in need especially to the poor and simple villagers
