Once upon a time there lived a crow near a village. His nest was on the high branch of a tall tree. He used to live by stealing foods from the nearer houses.
One day the crow stole an appealing piece of cheese. It flew to a nearby tree with the cheese so that she can eat that comfortably. A cunning fox saw it and decided to follow the crow. He thought to himself that the cheese would be very delicious to eat. Instantly, he made a plan to get the cheese from the crow.
The fox said to the crow, “You are very beautiful. I have never before set eyes upon such a shiny coat and sparking eyes!” The crow became very pleased at this.
The fox again said to the crow, “Since you look so magnificent, I’m sure that your voice would also be of the same or greater quality!”
This time the fox’s flattery certainly made the crow proud. In fact, it wanted to explain to the fox how magnificent her voice really was. The crow started to feel that, he has the greatest voice in the world. It opened up her mouth wide to sing a song and the cheese fell to the ground. At once, the fox ran towards the cheese and picked that up.
Now the fox said to the crow, “You may sing like an angel and look wonderful, however, you are not very clever!” With that delicious piece of cheese, the fox ran away. The crow thought to herself that next time she would not be so easily fooled.
Moral: Beware of flatterers. They are not to be trusted.
