Female Education in Bangladesh

The men and the women are the two wheels of the society. If one of the two falls defective, the society cannot make progress. Hence we need education for the females as we need for the males.

Mothers are the first teachers of the children. So the female education is highly necessary for any society. If the mothers be ignorant, they cannot take proper care of the children. They cannot infuse good qualities in them. If the females remain ignorant, the very foundation of a society remains weak. So, female education is quite essential for the women. The women are in no way inferior to men.

In western countries the women are writing books, driving cars and airplanes, running banks and big business firms and doing research in the laboratory. There are women scientists, women officers and women writers. The typewriters, the news agents, the sales agents the commercial solicitors are mostly women. Hence, we cannot deny the women-folk in our country.

In our country, women are about half of our total population. Hence, it is not possible for us to develop the country keeping our women uneducated. The blind faith and age old superstition was a big barrier to the female education in our country. But now-a-days people have felt the virtue of female education. Now they do not hesitate anymore to send their daughters to schools, colleges and universities.

Today our women are working in various sectors and contributing lots to the development of the country. They have come out of the cocoon and working hand in hand with men. They are joining in various professions from train driver to pilot. By receiving higher education, they are serving the country being doctors, engineers, teachers, administrators, traders and even judges. Besides these, women are now working in defense with great bravery and sincerity. As social workers, they are helping the poor and illiterate people by giving them advice about the rules of health, importance of education, family planning and so on our garments sector is leading in earning foreign currency. Nearly 90% of the garments workers are women of our country. The role of women in agricultural society, particularly in harvest time is also notable. A good number of women are working in poultry farms, cattle rearing and hatcheries all over the country.

Day by day the women workforce is becoming wider. The country is going ahead by the bounty of their hard labour. To speak in short, our women are the co-architect of the economic development of our country.

The female education has some disadvantages too. It is seen in Europe and America that the educated women do not want to bear children. They do not like children. They leave them in the nursery, more out of their disgust than for any other reason. But the defect does not lie in education as a principle. The defect lies in the curriculums.

Bangladesh is now optimistic in the field of female education. This is the country where female like Begaum Rokeya, Sufia Kamal, Irin khan, Sultana Kamal have born. So Today or tomorrow, the women of our country will stand upright with honour and dignity.
