The history of migration began as soon as human was created. The reason was to collect food from the nature and live. Moreover, for finding a safe place to protect themselves from natural disasters, wild animals encouraged to migrate. Various species of migratory birds comes Bangladesh from different places of the world every year. The beautiful places of this country which are famous for migratory birds are - Jahangirnagar University, Hakaluki Haor and Hyle Haor, Tangoar Beels, Nijhum Dwip, Chitagong Hill tracts, Mirpur Zoo, Mirpur ceramic lake, Netrokona Haor and many small as well as large lakes throughout the country. Most of these birds come from the mountainous northern parts of the subcontinent namely Himalayas and beyond. Some species come from different parts of Europe and as Far East as Siberia. There are about 628 bird species in Bangladesh, of which 244 are Migratory. About 100 species of migratory birds regularly or occasionally visit the country. Among these, many species are several endangered with the threat of extinction. Poachers are the biggest danger to migratory birds. Although the Wildlife Preservation Act of our country prohibits the hunting of migratory birds and wild animals, the law is not being implemented. Open sales of wild and migratory birds in the cities have become a common affair. The poachers take the advantage of the people’s lack of awareness of the importance of migratory birds. The government must have to enforce the prevailing law against the poachers. The consciousness of the common people is also a must regarding this.
