The Economic Habits of Queen Victoria

We all know the name Queen Victoria. She was Queen of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland for long 63 years and seven months. It is longer than that of any other British monarch and the longest of any female monarch in history.

Like the other princesses, Victoria was also reared up by her governess. When the queen was a little girl, she was taught economical habits by her wise governess. There was a fixed allowance for pocket money of the little queen. She was not permitted to exceed it anyhow. And the queen followed the rule imposed upon her.

Once at the market at Tunbridge wells, she had expended of all her fixed money. In fact she had to buy a number of presents for relatives and friends on a special occasion. As she was leaving, she remembered another cousin to whom she thought she would like to make a present. The queen saw a nice box marked half-crown in the rack of the shop. She considered that as the best gift for her cousin. But alas! The money was all gone!

The people in the shop said they would just enclose the box with other articles. But the wise governess of the little queen said, “No, you see, the princess has not the money needed to buy the gift and so she cannot buy any further box.” The little Victoria was not frustrated. She wished to buy the product after getting her next allowance.

The shopkeepers then said that they would reserve the box and would not sell it to anyone until she got the next due pocket money.
