Dividing the Cake/Two Rats and the Cunning Monkey

Once upon a time, there were two rats in a bush. They lived together and used to eat together what they got. Sometimes they used to quarrel with one another about their shares.

One day they were in search of food. They saw a large piece of cake. They saw it together and rushed to it. It was enough for them. But each of them wanted to have the larger share of the cake. So as usual they began quarrelling. They continued quarrelling for a long time. They exchanged a lot of hot words. But all went in vain. They could not be able to come to a decision about how they would divide the cake among themselves. Even they were about to fight with one another.

At last, they decided to go to a monkey who had a scale. Both of them reached the house of the monkey. The monkey came out from his house. He heard the whole matter and smiled. He assured the rats,

"Don't worry. I have a good solution of your problem. I will try my best to divide the cake equally."

He told the rats to give the cake to him. The monkey was very cunning. He divided the cake into two pieces in such a way that one piece grew a bit larger than the other. He bit off a portion from the large piece and ate that. As a result, the other piece then became larger. The monkey bit off a portion from that piece and ate instantly. One of the two rats cried out "Why are you eating our cake?" The cunning monkey answered with a serious mood, "oh! Don't you understand that I am trying to make the two pieces equal? Why are you disturbing me?" The two rats were perplexed.

Thus the monkey ate almost the whole cake. There was still a little portion of the cake. Both of the rats shouted, "Stop eating our cake. Give the cake back to us now." In fact they realized that this dividing of monkey was a trick of him, nothing else. But the monkey did not hand the rest of the cake to the rats. He said, "There is only one piece of cake. You are two, fight with one another. He will get the piece of cake who will win the battle." Saying this, the monkey started smiling. Seeing his wicked smile, one of the two rats wanted to teach his a good lesson. The other resisted him and said, "He is not our enemy. Our enemy is our own enmity. Let's return our home and promise not to quarrel anymore.”

From that time, the two rats never had any dispute over their shares.

Moral: "Quarrel ends with loss."

The King of Scotland/ Failures are the pillars of success /Robert Bruce and the spider

Once there was a good king in Scotland. His name was Robert Bruce. He loved his country and subjects very much. His subjects were happy under his rule. They loved and respected their king too.

Once the greedy king of England wanted to grab Scotland and rob the independence of its countrymen. The English soldiers attacked Scotland. Robert Bruce withstood the enemy with all his forces. He tried his best to uphold the independence of his country. But fortune did not smile upon him. He had to retreat with his soldiers. After some days, he attacked his enemies to get back the liberty of his country. But he failed. He tried six times one after another to save his country from enemies but failed. At last, he took shelter in a lonely cave. He was passing some days there in despair. He was shocked deeply. He was passing his sorrowful days thinking of his country and of his undone subjects. But there was no way. One day he was lying on his bed in the cave. Suddenly he noticed a spider. It was trying to reach the ceiling with the help of its silken thread. It was making a cobweb. The king kept looking to the persevering spider. It was trying again and again to go up but dropped down every time. About thirty attempts made by the spider failed one after another. After a few more efforts, the spider became successful. This event, stirred Bruce and he decided to fight once again. He regained his lost vitality. The perseverance of the spider inspired him much. He thought that," If the spider does not accept defeat, then why should I?" Filled with new hope and confidence, he brought together his scattered forces. He fought against his enemies once more with renewed energy. This time he defeated his enemies and his country became free.

Thus Robert Bruce has set an example of the truth- "Failures are the pillars of success". So we all should be patient and persevering like him to be successful.
