Grameen Bank is a familiar figure in the field of banking sector in our country. It is pioneer of the village banking in Bangladesh. The noted economist Dr. Muhamad yunus, a noble prize winner established the bank. Its aim is to serve the poor, landless and helpless people of village. Its main motto is to alleviate the term 'poverty' from the rural areas. It Kas brought a revolutionary change in the banking sector with micro-credit system. Though at the very outset it started its mission with a single village named Zobra in chittagong, now it is rendering service across the country. It plays a vital role in our economy. It has also world wide reputation and many countries are adopting this micro-credit policy to remove the poverty with a view to achieving prosperity. It offers loans on easy terms for the poor people to make them self-reliant. The bank provides training on fish cultivation, poultry raising. Cow and goat rearing and so on. The bank has its own rules and regulations for giving loans and receiving repayment of loans. People who are interested in taking loans would have to form 5-6 groups of workers consisting of five members in each group. There will be a centre where the bank will work with people. The bank is playing an important role for changing the lot of the poor people of our country. It is putting on new shape with its new policy which will be more beneficial for the poor. It is also creating employment for the unemployed. But the authority should be concerned about the high rate of interest on money for the greater welfare of the poor.
