God has created so many things on the earth for the welfare of mankind. Trees are one of the most important of all these things. In fact, nothing can be more useful for us than trees. The importance of trees in our life is beyond description.
Almighty God has planted trees before he created human beings on earth. The existence of human life would be impossible if there was no tree around us. Tree leaves oxygen which is a life-saving gas for all living beings. We need oxygen for our breathing and living. So tree is a mute friend of man. It can not talk to us or move from one place to another. Nevertheless, it goes on helping us silently as a great friend. So tree plantation is essential for ourselves.
According to the experts, a country should have 25% of its total area as forest. But, it is a matter of great regret that, we have only 7%. So we have no alternative to tree plantation. But our country is a low-lying land of rivers. Hence, we have no rich forest resources. Our forest resources consist of the forest of Vhaowal, Modhupur, Chittagong Hill tracts and the world-famous Sundarbans.
Still, there are a lot of scopes to plant trees in our country. Sea beaches and low-lying unused lands can be brought under the scheme of forestation. Special types of trees can be plant in these areas which are suited to the soil. There are lots of roads and highways in our country. We can plant trees on both sides of those roads. We also can plant trees on the sides of river and canal. In villages, there are more places where trees can be planted easily.
June and July are the best time for tree plantation. The campaign of tree plantation should be expanded across the country. The government should create interests among people regarding this. They can reward the person or institution who contributes in tree plantation. The electronic and print media has also a role to play here. They can make people aware of the benefits of tree plantation.
We should bear in mind that, trees play a vital role to preserve our environment. It helps us to prevent pollution. It keeps our air clean by absorbing carbon-Di-oxide, which is gravely harmful to us. It prevents the erosion of our land and keeps the soil strong. Besides, tree causes rainfall and prevent drought. Only trees can save an area from becoming a desert. Thus it prevents global warming which is the burning question of the world. In maintaining the ecological balance, tree plays the chief role. Besides, trees protect us from the harmful effects of green house effects. So we all have to come forward to succeed the campaign of tree plantation and take it as a challenge.
It will be no exaggeration that there is no alternative to trees for leading a happy and prosperous life. So, we must protect the existing trees and plant new ones. We must not forget that taking care of trees means, taking care of ourselves. Great poet Rabindranath Tagore entreats-
“Give back the forest, take your town”.
