Hobby means interesting works at our leisure period. Sometimes life becomes monotonous to us and we want to get rid of the complexity of our life. We get the rhythm of life back by enjoying hobbies. It makes our mind cheerful and provides us with vigour.
There is a proverb: “Many men many minds”. Man is different in taste. So, there are many kinds of hobbies. Some common hobbies are gardening, fishing, reading books, stamp collecting, autograph collection, painting, kite flying, drawing, listening music etc. whatever it may be, it gives us pleasure.
As I am a student, I have some leisure time to spend. I do not waste time in idle gossiping or loitering here and there. I believe that “An idle brain is the devil’s workshop.” So, I have chosen a constructive hobby for myself. It is reading books.
One may ask me why I have chosen reading books as my hobby. In answer to, I will say that, book is the greatest source of not only knowledge but also pleasure. To acquire knowledge, it is not enough to study merely textbooks. Apart from my textbooks, I read the books of the great writers, their biography and criticism. These books widen the horizon of my knowledge and I get pleasure when I learn a new thing. I obey the valuable sentence of our great poet Robindranath Tagore.
He says-
“The education without pleasure is valueless.”
I like to read various types of books, such as story books, poetry, drama, criticism and novels. Any type of humorous writing is my favourite. Whenever I feel dull and bore with my monotonous routine life, I read books to refresh myself. Some books make me thoughtful, some books make me laugh and some books inspire me. I am absorbed in the imaginative world of literature. I become the part of poetry or a novel and feelings and emotions of the character. I visualize the events of any literature that I read and feel happy. I imagine myself as a character in a story, novel or drama. It sharpens my sensibilities and enables me to be a good thinker. It also helps me to meditate in deep of knowledge. I can create new theme with the help of it.
I also like to read the biography of the great men of the world. Their lives persuade me to do something for the welfare of the world. I try to abide by the words of the great people. I have completed the book named “The 100 great man of the world” edited by M.H. Heart. My mother gave me the book on my last birthday.
I like to buy
books on various occasions. Normally I give books to my friends as gift and
suggest them to read those. My parents buy books for me all the year round. My
friends and cousins also present me books. I have a big almirah full of books
in my reading room. When I find any leisure time, I read book. I have a plan to
make a library in future. There will be numerous books of various interests.
Everybody will be allowed to read books there. This is my dream.
to speak the truth, book is our best companion. I think it is not material; it is living as it guides us. It can be called as a silent teacher. I have some friends but I may not find them while I am not in a good mood but book is always ready to make my mind cheerful. So, I think, reading books as a hobby of any person is really enjoyable.
