The Game I like Most (Football)

There are various kinds of outdoor games in our country. I do not like all the games. My favourite game is football. It is one of the most exciting games of the world. Though it has originated from England, it has become a popular game all over the world.

There are several reasons why I like the game most. I think, the every single moment of a football match is full of thrill and excitement. No other game is as interesting as football. The spectators of a football match get much more pleasure than that of any other game. Besides, football is not an expensive game like hockey or time killing like cricket. Hence, I like football most.

Football is played in a large field of 110 to 120 yards long and 70 to 80 yards wide. There are two goal posts at the two opposite ends of the field. The distance between the two goal posts is 8 yards. A bar is tied on the goal posts which is also eight feet above from the ground. There is a centre on the middle of the field and a penalty box on each side.

The game is played between two teams. Each team has 11 players. Each of the team has a goal-keeper. His duty is to protect the ball so that the ball can not cross the goal line between the two goal posts. Only he is allowed to touch the ball with any part of his body. But the other players can not touch the ball with their hands. Each team has two backs, three half-backs and five forwards. Usually the game lasts 90 minutes. The whole game is divided into two equal halves with as interval of 10 minutes. At the end of the first half, each time changes its side. There is a referee to control the rules of the game.

First of all, a ball is placed at the centre. The referee whistles and the game starts. Then the attack and the counter attack begin. Both the teams try their best to send the ball through the opposite goal posts. When a team attacks the opposite, the supporters of the team encourage them by shouting. If a goal is scored, the spectators burst into cheering shouts. The team that scores more goals wins the game. The highest scores and the winning team are awarded and praised highly. 

Football is a good form of exercise. It makes our body strong and hardy. The game teaches us to be obedient to rules. It also teaches us discipline and increases our team-spirit. We learn from it that victory depends on mutual co-operation. Moreover, football teaches us the art of successful leadership.

The football has some demerits too. The game has the risk of sudden injury or fracture of legs. Sometimes it leads us to a bitter quarrel. Often students pass long time by practising it which hinders their study.

Though football has some demerits, nevertheless I like it. No other game is as exciting as football. I have the game heart and soul and play it regularly.
