Annual Prize Giving Ceremony

The annual prize giving day is a gala day for the students and teachers of a school. It is a much awaited occasion for the students. No other occasion is as much exciting as it. Usually such pleasant programmes are held on national days or the anniversary of the institutions.

The last prize giving day of our school was held on 21st February. The whole school premises were decorated nicely with clourful entrance. The main programme was held in the large playground of our school. Sufficient seating arrangements were made for the guest, teachers and students and guirdians.

The programme was started punctually at 10.30. Our Honourable Headmistress inaugurated the programme by hosting the national flag and the flying of the pigeons of peace. The chief guest was our local M.P. The honourable chief guest took the salute of the march past. Then the main events started.

There were 20 different sporting events in total. The most remarkable events were 100 meter sprint, 400 meter sprint, 800 meter marathon sprint/ race, sack race, javelin throw, hammer throw, long jump, high jump, cycle race, pillow passing, hurdle race, weight lifting, dress as you like etc. We enjoyed the 400 meter race most. Some of the participants were quite fat. It was a great fun to see them running! We laughed and clapped. The hurdle race was also enjoyable. It was great fun to see the participants running with their hands tied backwards.

Then the slow sack race began. About twenty students took part in it. I also took part in this event. I became the second in the race. After the race, the long jump, the high jump and triple jump started. These items were also very interesting. But I took no part in these items as I have no interest in them.

We were all eagerly waiting for the teachers’ race (male). Most of our teachers took part in it. We enjoyed the race very much. The race was won by our Math teacher.

At afternoon, the prize giving ceremony was initiated by our Headmistress. Our headmistress, who was presiding over the programme was calling/ declaring the winners name. They were taking their prizes from the chief guest. After that, the chief guest delivered a short speech to all of us. I can still recall one of his sentences – “It is not essential to win, rather the essential thing is to participate”. Finally our head mistress also delivered a short but instructive speech and declared the end of the programme.

Even though I am not a very great enthusiast of games or sports, I just love this day. I must attend school on this day every year whether I participate or not. The thrill and the excitement of the day fascinate me. I love to see my friends and others participants to be winner. Their victory boosts up my own pleasure.
