Population Problem in Bangladesh

Introduction: Generally the population of a country is an asset to her. But this asset turns into a problem when it grows rapidly and the country can not afford to give her people the basic needs of life.

Current population of Bangladesh: Increasing population is a burning question in any country. Bangladesh is one of the most densely populated countries of the world. Population problem is the number one national problem of our country. According to the last statistics (2016) of World Bank, the total population of this small country is 163.00 million. Experts assume that the population of the country will be around 20 crores within 2020 and exceeded 25 crores within 2050.

The cause of this problem: In Bangladesh, the chief reason of the population problem is ignorance. Most of the people of our country are still illiterate. They do not know the consequences of much population and they are in the dark about family planning. Early marriage and polygamy are also two important reasons here. The illiterate, poverty stricken people are not aware of controlling the population. Lack of female education and religious superstitions are also responsible to this.

Consequences: The consequence of population explosion is not less harmful than atomic explosion. It is creating serious problems in our country like poverty food crisis, housing problem, lower standard of life, unemployment problem price like, educational problem, corruption and so on. This huge population is creating pressure to our limited wealth. As a result, social degradation is being seen in our country. Many unemployed Youngs are engaging themselves into various crimes. Some of them are addicted to various types of intoxications.

Possible solution: Our government has taken several projects and activities to control the population. It is not possible for the government to solve this problem alone. All walks of people should come forward to solve the problem. Educated people can play a vital role here. They can create awareness among the other people. Electronic and print media can also play important role. Government can provide quota-system or extra facilities to encourage small family. Transport of manpower is also a good solution.

Conclusion: Extreme increase of population is obstructing the socio-economic development of our country. Therefore, we must have to control our population to build up a better Bangladesh.
