Food Habits of a country depends on the geographic and climatic conditions of the land. Social and religious customs of the country are also a factor here. We like to eat and like to feed others. Our Bangladesh is land of rivers. Cultivating and fishing is the chief occupations of the people of the country. Numerous varieties of rice are produced in our country. Similarly, hundreds of species of fish are available in our rivers, canals, floodplains, haors, baors, ponds, lakes, and in the Bay of Bengal. The soft muddy soil of Bangladesh is producing a large variety of vegetables. Lots of vegetables grow in the fertile land of our country. We usually take three meals a day. Rice, fish and vegetables are, therefore, always on the top of our food menu. Rice is our staple food. Rice is usually boiled and eaten with curry. Most of our local curries are cooked with different types of delicious fishes. Among all fishes, Hilsha is the most popular in our country. Meat does not figure as a common everyday dish because of its high price. Different types of seasonal fruits are available in our country. We eat Mango, Jackfruit, Blackberry, Banana, Lichi, water melon, Pine apple, Guava and many other types of fruits seasonally. A great variety of pithas made of rice is also an attractive food in our country. However, the traditional food habits of the country have been undergoing changes according to the demands of the time.
