Paragraph on Annual Sports Day

 

The annual sports day is gala day for the students and teachers of a school or college. No other occasion is as much exciting as it. The last sports day of our school was held on 21^st February. The whole school premises were decorated nicely with colourful flowers and papers, green leaves, festoons and so on. A pompous gate was erected at the entrance of our school playground. Sufficient seating arrangements were made for the guests, teachers and students. The programme was started punctually at 10.30. Our honourable Headmistress inaugurated the programme by the hoisting of the national flag and the flying of the pigeons of peace. The chief guest was our local M.P The honourable chief guest took the salute of the march past. Then the main events started. There were 20 different sporting events in total. The most remarkable events were 100 meter sprint, 400 meter sprint, 800 meter marathon sprint/ race, javelin throw, long jump, high jump, cycle race, pillow passing, hurdle race, weight lifting, dress as you like etc. I took part in 3 events and secured two second positions and a first position. The last event of the day was prize giving ceremony. Our headmistress, who was presiding over the programme was calling/declaring the winners name. They were taking their prizes from the chief guest. After that, the chief guest delivered a short speech to all of us. Finally our headmistress also delivered a short but instructive speech and declared the end to the programme. Such occasions are enjoyable to us all.
