Environment pollution refers to the demolition of the three main elements-air, water and soil. It has become a burning question across the world. There is no country or nation who is not concerned about this problem. Environment is polluted in many ways. In most cases, man is responsible for the pollution. It is a matter of great regret that man pollutes the environment living in it. Man creates fire to cook food, melt tar, burn bricks and refuse. These fires emit a huge amount of carbon-dioxide, carbon monoxide and other toxic gases which are very much harmful to the air. Mills, factories, buses, trucks, cars also produce a lot of smoke. For this reason, the air of the Dhaka city is seriously polluted. Water, another important element of our environment is also polluted by the foolishness of man. Some inconsiderate people throw various kinds of domestic waste and filth into water. Factories emit their chemical waste into the water of the river. Besides, various types of water-vehicles like launch, steamer and other engine boat dump oil into water. Moreover, farmers use poisonous chemical fertilizer and pesticides which get mixed with the water and pollute it. The mismanagement of our drainage system is also responsible to water pollution. Like air and water, soil is also being polluted by man. They are cutting down trees indiscriminately for making abode. Because of the extreme use of fertilizer, the soil is losing its fertility. Apart from air, water and soil pollution- sound and odour pollutions are also serious in our country, especially in our cities. These two types of pollution are unbearable in the capital city of Bangladesh. By hook or by crook, we have to prevent pollution. Not any feigned programme, the government should take effective measures immediately. Public awareness is essential to stop the pollution. An all out effort of both the public and the government can prevent the pollution.
