Price Hike refers to the unusual increase in the prices of daily necessaries. Now-a-days, it is a common phenomenon in Bangladesh. Prices of almost all products are rising very fast. There are some particular reasons behind it. Generally, insufficient supply of commodities and money inflation are mainly responsible for price-hike. But in case of Bangladesh, according to experts, market syndicate is mostly responsible for the problem. Many dishonest merchants store essential commodities in order to earn huge profit. It affects the market seriously and causes a decrease in the supply in the market. Black marketing is also a noticeable reason of price hike. The other reasons of price-hike are less agricultural production, lack of raw materials, want of speedy communication, political instability and so on. In our country the problem has created untold miseries to the mass people. Price of commodities has already gone beyond the capacity of poor and fixed income people. The lower middle class people are the worst sufferers of this problem. This problem is creating several other problems like- corruption, moral degradation, lower standard of life etc. The problem must be taken as urgent. Though it is not a problem to be solved overnight, nevertheless, it is possible to control it to a large extent. The Government has already made an additions and alterations in the related ministry. The market syndicate is now under monitoring. We hope that soon the situation will be under control.
