Devastating fire in Garments Factory, Gazipur

A devastating fire broke out at about 12 p.m yesterday at Modern Garments Gazipur, which has gutted the largest portion of the garments houses. The caretaker of the building died and at least 11 workers are gravely injured. The injured workers have been taken to hospital.
According to the primary investigation, the fire originated from electric short circuit. "The fire swiftly engulfed the whole building in the twinkle of an eye", a witness said. The people living near the building rushed to the building and tried to put out the fire with buckets, gunny sacks etc. But they failed to bring the fire under control. Later fire brigade came to the spot and extinguished the fire within one hour.
About 50 workers have injured while they were trying to save there life in a hurry. The relatives of the injured workers and the local people complained that they could not get down timely because of the closed collapsible gate. In this regard, the security guard and the manager are being investigated. Approximately, the amount of loss is 30 lac Tk. according to the proprietor of the Garments.
