It was the time of Meiji Era in Japan during the year 1828. A blind swordsman lived in a village of Tokyo. He had lost his eyes during the revolution. He was very frustrated and started wandering in search of a good doctor who could treat his eyes. His cousin helped him out in the journey.
In that period, there were very few people who used to practice medicine. The blind swordsman was wandering all the places around but found no good doctor who could operate his eyes.
One day, he came to Kyoto. Here, he heard of a famous doctor named Dr. Tikani. Dr. Tikani was mysterious man. He and his family had been practicing medicine for three generations. However, Dr. Tikani didn't take any fee for treating his patients. In Fridays, he used to pray from dawn to dusk in the Pagoda up in the hill. For these reasons, he became a mysterious person to all living in Kyoto. People in Kyoto believed that Tikani possessed a godly power.
The blind swordsman went to the house of Dr. Tikani. He told that he had roamed for so long in search of a doctor like him. Dr. Tikani was such a man who used to prefer to talk less and work more. He started treating his blind patient without further conversation. It took fifteen days for the whole procedure. On the sixteenth day, when the doctor opened the eye-patches, the blind swordsman saw the light of the world after long three years!
He was overwhelmed and offered his sword to him. Dr. Tikani refused to take it. He told the swordsman a personal story of his life in brief. During the period of revolution, Dr Tikani lost all of his family members. A group of swordsmen one day came to his house and killed all of his family members. Dr. Tikani was left as he was out to visit a serious patient. Since then, he has been living with great hatred for swordsmen. He had treated the blind swordsmen out of his medical ethics.
The blind swordsman was very shocked at hearing the sad story of the doctor. He made a vow to the doctor. He promised to use his sword only in order to protect people from the evil. He was grateful to the doctor not only for giving his eyesight back but also for giving him a new meaning of life.
